The Odessa Police Department would like to thank Chris Heisler for stopping by the station today with the United States Honor Flag. It just came from New Mexico, where it was present for the funeral of a recent fallen police officer. Since September 11, 2001, the United States Honor Flag has made several appearances at several significant funeral services and events throughout the country. Did you know that the United States Honor Flag made its very first appearance at a law enforcement funeral in 2007, when it was present for the funerals of the three Fallen OPD officers?
In 2007 Corporal Scott Gardner, Corporal Arlie Jones, and Corporal Abel Marquez were shot and killed when they responded to a domestic violence call in Northwest Odessa. Based on the massive media coverage from this one stop, the United States Honor Flag never went back to Chris Heisler’s home and has since traveled millions of miles and has been present at over a thousand law enforcement funerals.
