An exciting day for local law enforcement agencies in the Permian Basin, including the Odessa Police Department! This year was a record-breaking year for Bustin’ for Badges and $540,000 was raised. Today, OPD Chief Mike Gerke and Deputy Chief Robert Doporto were presented with a $135,000 check.

Last month, the 10th Annual Bustin’ for Badges sporting clays tournament took place. Since starting in 2014, the tournament has raised more than $3.5 million in proceeds for our local law enforcement agencies. Each of the four law enforcement agencies use the funds to purchase new equipment and technology to better serve and protect our community.

The fundraiser also benefits the Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Midland County Sheriff’s Office, and Midland Police Department. OPD Corporal Steve LeSueur is on the Bustin’ for Badges Board of Directors and serves as Vice President. OPD Crime Scene Unit Tech Megan Shelton also won a $500 gift card from Walmart for volunteering in the clay shoot.
