The incident unfolded on Saturday (6-17-23) at around 9:30pm. OPD and OFR responded to Murphy and Fitch in reference to a major crash. A gray Jeep Cherokee, operated by 33 year old Brittany Johnson, was traveling eastbound in the 1200 block of East Murphy. A white Kia Rio, operated by 32 year old Maxine Amador, was stopped facing northbound in the 600 block of Fitch. A black GMC Sierra
was traveling southbound in the 500 block of Fitch and attempted to turn eastbound onto Murphy.
The investigation revealed that the driver of the GMC Sierra failed to yield the right of way and struck the Jeep Cherokee before striking the Kia Rio. The driver of the GMC Sierra left the scene of the crash and failed to render aid. OPD later located the GMC Sierra nearby, but it was unoccupied. Johnson was transported to a local hospital with serious bodily injury. There were no reports of any other serious injuries.
At this time, no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact OPD at 432-335-3333 or Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS and reference Case #23-0007106.
