[ARCHIVED] It's National Donut Day

The Bun family

The Bun family Donuts from Jack 'N' Jill Donuts

“I want to own a business one day and be rich,” said 10-year-old Angchyeric Bun with a big smile on his face.

It seems the 2nd grader, who attends Barbara Jordan Elementary, is well on his way!

His family owns Jack ’N’ Jill Donuts on 87th Street. His mom, dad and older brother were all there working hard. They’re originally from Cambodia.

You could easily tell they have an amazing work ethic and were going above and beyond for anyone coming in. So, in honor of “National Donut Day” you may want to splurge.

There's also a charitable origin story into how the first Friday in June became known as National Donut Day. The Salvation Army in 1938 established it to honor the organization's Donut Lassies. They’re women who traveled to France to serve donuts and other snacks to soldiers during World War I.
