He comes from a long line of creative geniuses. Ish Mata, who goes by Brooklyn, owns a balloon business here in Odessa. He started it about 10 years ago.
“My talent is a gift. It’s been lent to me by God.”
HIs mother and grandmother are in heaven, but he hopes they’re looking down and proud as he continues their legacy of using creative skills. His grandmother was a seamstress, his mother a cake decorator and his dad a carpenter.
When you talk with the Odessa man, you feel the emotional he has for his incredible projects. You can tell it brings him joy to watch the balloon creations come to life.
“It’s incredible.”
How long does it take? He gave one example of three arches he did for a Quinceañera. They were 15 feet high and 8 feet wide. This “Balloons by Brooklyn” design took 17 hours.
“It takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears,” Brooklyn said that with a sweet smile.
The Odessa High School graduate says it’s more than event decor. He’s helping people create important memories as they mark special occasions. Brooklyn also lives by this motto….
“One is to be happy and the other is to make others happy.”
