An important press conference was held earlier today at the Odessa Police Department. Law enforcement and local leaders joined today to discuss this important issue: Underage Drinking and Driving.
While graduation is a momentous occasion, it can also bring about underage drinking parties. "We want to keep our teens safe, our graduates safe, but we also are concerned about them leaving those parties after drinking and then driving. We want to make sure that they are safe as they leave those parties and those celebrations," Chief Mike Gerke states.
City of Odessa Mayor Javier Joven spoke about underage drinking and how it is unacceptable. "Graduation is a milestone, but is no excuse for teenage drinking. Graduation is a rite of passage, but underage drinking is not," He says.
Law enforcement will increase its patrol this weekend in response to calls involving drug use and underage drinking parties. Any tips that result in a citation can result in a cash reward. These offenses include Minor in Possession, Minor Consuming, Furnishing Alcohol to Minors, and Social Host Accountability.
Anyone with information about any of the above-listed offenses is encouraged to call Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS or on the P3Tips app.
