Train Crash

Train CrashNEW: Texas DPS releases new information regarding the crash video we showed you yesterday. As we mentioned, Odessa Fire Rescue helped with the incident which took place near West Murphy and Business 20.  

We didn't release the video until the next of kin had been notified.  As you can imagine, it’s a difficult and emotional time for loved ones. Our prayers are with the victim’s families. It’s also a time that we want to remind you about train safety: Stop, Look, Listen! Beware of trains.  

Driver Vehicle 1: Deceased
John Edward Grube, 86-years-old, of Frisco, TX
Seatbelt: No
 
Passenger Vehicle 1:
Kay Clemens Pries, 90-years-old, of Frisco, TX
Seatbelt: Yes
Injury Information: Transported to University Medical Center, Lubbock - Critical Condition
 
Driver Vehicle 2:
Jesus Guadalupe Laredo, 28-years-old, of Corpus Christi, TX
Seatbelt: Unknown
Injury Information: Transported to Medical Center Hospital, Odessa - Stable Condition

Texas Department of Public Safety - West Texas Region
Background: Preliminary information revealed that vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound on Murphy St. and vehicle 2 was traveling westbound on Murphy St. Vehicle 1 failed to yield the right of way attempting to turn left onto Business 20 in front of vehicle 2 resulting in a crash. 

As a result of the collision, vehicle 2 came to rest on the train tracks. The driver was able to exit the vehicle before vehicle 2 was struck by a passing train resulting in a second crash.
