An arrest has been made in connection to a shooting that occurred last night in Southwest Odessa. Ronnie Ortiz Jr., date of birth 02/27/1993, has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon "2nd Degree Felony".
On February 9, 2021 at approximately 2209 hours, Odessa Police responded to 2300 West 10th Street in reference to shots being fired. Officers later responded to Medical Center Hospital in reference to a gunshot victim, identified as an 18-year-old male.
Investigation revealed that after a disturbance occurred at Floyd Gwin Park, Ortiz shot the 18-year-old male in the back and also shot at an 18-year-old female. The 18-year-old male was transported to MCH with serious bodily injury and the 18-year-old female sustained no injuries.
Ortiz was located by DPS and later admitted to shooting the 18-year-old male. Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Ortiz was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the ECLEC.
The investigation continues.
