TYPE OF INCIDENT: Ector County Joint Agency New Year’s Eve DWI Operation
DATE/TIME OCCURRED: December 31st, 2020 at 1600 hours
LOCATION: Odessa
SUMMARY:
The Odessa Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety - Highway Patrol, University of Texas of the Permian Basin Police, and the Ector County Sheriff’s Office teamed up for the 2nd - Joint Agency New Year’s Eve DWI Enforcement Operation in Ector County.
Operation Coordinators also partnered with the Texas Department of Transportation and local news outlets leading up to New Year’s Eve, to remind those traveling on area roadways to always plan a sober and responsible method of transportation while celebrating the holidays.
The Operation resulted in a total of 49 arrests by Operation Officers and Troopers.
26 – Driving While Intoxicated Arrests
- 1 – DWI 3rd Offense or More, Felony 3rd Degree
- 3 – DWI 2nd Offense, Misdemeanor “A”
- 2 – DWI BAC 0.15 or Greater, Misdemeanor “A”
- 5 – DWI Open Alcohol Container, Misdemeanor “B”
23 Additional Arrests were made for additional offenses including:
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance
1st time DWI Arrests can cost up to $20,000 in fines, court fees, and other penalties and result in the suspension of your driver’s license. It costs just a fraction to plan ahead and arrange a ride from friend or families, other ride share and public transportation options. Increased enforcement will continue into the new year to ensure our roadways are safe for those that live, work, and visit Ector County. Community members are encouraged to dial 9-1-1 if they observe dangerous or unsafe driving on Odessa roadways.
