More than 50 people showed up last night to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church to take part in OPD's C.R.A.S.E. training. It stands for Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events. It's the second time this Odessa church has held this program. Sergeant Carlos Chavez, who's been with the Odessa Police Department for 34 years, was the instructor. He also attends church there.
It is conducted by the Odessa Police Department to groups, businesses and churches seeking more knowledge about how to prepare for an active shooter situation. OPD has been conducting this training for about five years and the best part-- it's FREE!
Our hope is that you will be proactive and learn ways to better help us fight crime!
OPD's website has some background on the training that you can find here: https://odessa-tx.gov/965/Civilian-Response-to-Active-Shooter-Even. If you would like to schedule either a C.R.A.S.E. training or security assessment, please contact Corporal Steve LeSueur at slesueur@odessa-tx.gov or call 432-335-3322.
